On January 20, 2026, Professor Daniele Caramani from the University of Zurich visited the Shanghai Institution for European Studies (SIES) and delivered a keynote speech on “The Rise and Impact of Populism in European Party Systems,” followed by discussions with Shanghai-based experts and scholars. Professor Caramani also presented his research project “Global Cleavages: The Shape of Political Conflict Worldwide in Historical Perspective.” Participants included Dai Yichen, Ding Chun, Ji Lei, Jian Junbo, Song Lilei, Wu Jiwei, Xu Mingqi, Yang Haifeng, Yang Yunzhen, Zhu Lianbi, and Zhu Yichen, among others.
